Long Term Drug Rehab Treatment
Once an individual has fallen prey to the vicious cycles of drug addiction, only a program at a drug rehab center can help to break the endless chain of substance abuse and to assist an individual to regain control of their lives.
In order for a drug rehab treatment program to be effective, both the physical and the psychological elements of each unique patients’ problem with substance abuse must be treated thoroughly and individually.
-
Physical Treatment
A drug rehab treatment begins with detoxification, or eliminating the harmful toxins related to substance abuse. While the body is cleansed, there are many painful and stressful withdrawal symptoms that occur.
Many drug rehab centers can provide patients with medication to help ease with any discomfort associated with these withdrawal symptoms. In severe cases of addiction, withdrawal symptoms can even be lie threatening so it is important to be under qualified medical supervision when detoxifying.
As a tolerance is built to a substance, the body will develop an increasing physical need for that substance.
Detoxifying is a process that typically lasts up to ten days, but can last up to several weeks.
-
Psychological Treatment
After a person has completed the detoxification portion, the hard part begins. This is where a patient will be assessed based on individual characteristics, and a unique program will be designed for each patient based on their unique needs.
There are general programs in a drug rehab, such as group therapy and individual (one on one) therapy. These programs work together to provide the basic tools needed for recovery from substance abuse. Behavior modification is a key function in breaking the chain of substance abuse.
However, a successful drug rehab treatment can not maintain a cookie cutter approach to addiction recovery. This is some people can complete a drug rehab treatment program in only 30 days, while others need longer treatment.
-
Long Term Drug Rehab Treatment
Dual diagnosis is used in therapy to assess, identify, and treat each patient based on not only their substance abuse, but any underlying causes that may correlate with the addictive behaviors. There are many sources of temptation that contribute to addiction and abuse. Some people act on negative behaviors to feel a rush, while others will exhibit the same behaviors to feel numb, or to mask an underlying problem.
A long term drug rehab treatment is important for somebody with an underlying disorder to devote to, because treating only the substance abuse will be a temporary fix but working through every aspect completely will result in a successful recovery, so that a patient can complete their training and move on to apply these new skills. Ultimately, this patient can live a healthier, happier life.
"I had been attempting to get sober for over 17 years before entering Axis. Axis gave me foundation to recreate my life. For this experience I am forever grateful." -Josh L.
