Residential Drug Rehab: Recovery from Addiction Doesn’t End with Quitting!
Drug addiction is something that affects an individual and anybody who is close to the individual, in many aspects. There is mental and emotional damage caused to the victim of addiction, as well as to the ‘secondary victims’, who only want to help.
Physical ailments can also occur from being a secondary victim of drug addiction. It is a very stressful situation to watch somebody you love make destructive and reckless decisions. Additionally, addiction causes a person to betray even those closest to them, and in a way "bite the hand that feeds them"... so the destructive path of addiction is something that is not limited to just the person using drugs.
When addiction has become a problem in your life, and taken over, it can take a long time for someone to be ready to quit, and to be ready to admit they need help to quit. Admitting you need help is especially difficult because it’s easier to think that we actually have some control over our decisions, and there are more tempting myths about quitting.
The fact is, you can’t quit drugs by simply cutting back on use. It is impossible to ease your way into recovering from addiction. It just can’t be done! At best, you will be able to quit, but you will relapse. It is inevitable.
The only way to quit drugs is to do it full force, similar to cold turkey, only it must be done in a controlled and supervised setting with proper medical guidance.
Not only will a restricted setting prevent "caving in" and relapsing when the painful withdrawal symptoms get to be too much (as is often the case when somebody attempts to detoxify on their own), but in a medical detox center a qualified professional can prescribe medication when and if needed to help make the withdrawal symptoms less uncomfortable.
Most importantly, depending on the severity of the addiction, some of the physical withdrawal symptoms can be life threatening. You should never attempt to quit cold turkey, or detoxify, without proper medical supervision.
Once you are physically free from the drugs control, this is only the end of the beginning. In order to fully recover from drug addiction, and stay clean, a residential drug rehab is necessary.
Full time care devoted to your individual needs, a unique recovery program just for you, and a combination of group and individual theory will provide you with all the tools needed to treat and beat any underlying causes that make you susceptible to relapse.
Once you have stepped foot on a path, there is no way to turn around and just go back. You must move forward, and the only way to get through a drug addiction is to work through every aspect of that drug addiction and its control over you.
"I had been attempting to get sober for over 17 years before entering Axis. Axis gave me foundation to recreate my life. For this experience I am forever grateful." -Josh L.
